Punch series subwoofers come in various designs and sizes. As their name implies, these subwoofers sound punchy. They’re designed to produce enough bass to satisfy almost anyone. They use an advanced technology that yields a relatively larger woofer cone of up to 25% than competing models of the same size. To us, a larger woofer cone means a wide dispersion, and more powerful bass.
In terms of power handling, Rockford Fosgate Punch subwoofers can handle a decent amount of power on continuous basis. This means, you can push them a lot harder without damaging them. The downside, however, is that they’re a bit lacking in terms of sensitivity. Therefore, you’ll need a powerful amplifier to drive these subs.
Sensitivity rating refers to how well a speakers can convert power into volume. For every 3dB increase in sensitivity, only half the power is required to create the same volume output. In other words, subwoofers with high sensitivity rating require less power to produce the same volume than subs with low sensitivity rating.
We’ve also found that while the bass output that these subwoofers produce is remarkably enough to satisfy anyone, it’s a bit lacking in terms of quality. I mean the bass is there, but it’s not well-defined and well-rounded as some high-end subwoofers we’ve come across.

The Witness: Kicker
Comp series subs are Kicker’s best selling subwoofers probably because they’re in more of a low-mid price range. Kicker Comp series subwoofers come in various designs (single and dual voice coils) and sizes (from 8″ to 15″). They’re best suited for those looking to add some bass to their car audio system without spending a ton of cash.
Kicker subwoofers are designed to handle a decent amount of power. The trick to making these subs sound great is to put them in a medium to large-sized enclosure (sealed OR ported) and most importantly to not overpower them. 150 – 250 watts RMS is all you need. If you’re more into SPL competition, look for L7 series subwoofers. They’re built with that in mind. L7 subwoofers are pretty expensive and require a ton of power, and may drain on your car’s electrical system, so you’ll need to upgrade it or at the very least use a car audio capacitor.
The 10C124 is one of kicker’s best selling 12″ inch subwoofer. It features a flex-resistant polypropylene woofer cone with 360-degree back bracing for hard-hitting lows without distortion. Its strong motor structure, ribbed foam surround, double stitching and extensive venting ensure long-lasting performance, while its tough steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass.
