Rockford Fosgate P1 12 Inch Subwoofer Review

Rockford Fosgate is one of the best car subwoofer brands out there. They’ve been in this industry for a very long time, and they’ve mastered the art of providing quality audio components.

Rockford Fosgate offer a wide range of car subwoofers. There’s Prime, Punch, and Power series. With the latter being – as their name implies -the most powerful subwoofers that Rockford Fosgate has to offer. They’re designed to push the envelope in terms of bass reproduction and loudness. However, this doesn’t mean by any means that the “Prime” and “Punch” series subs aren’t anything to write home about.

Rockford Fosgate Prime subwoofers aren’t going to turn your ride into a rolling thunderstorm of bass. However, they can do quite well if properly powered.

Rockford Fosgate “Punch” series subs on the other hand fall between the entry-level “Prime” series and “Power” series in terms of performance and price. They come in various sizes, and they seem to be well-liked. For the purpose of this article, we’ll shed some light on rockford fosgate p1 12 inch subs.

Rockford Fosgate P1S4-12 Punch P1 Review

The P1S4-12 is one of the top rated 12 inch subwoofer in the Punch P1 series. It’s a great budget subwoofer designed to deliver relatively powerful lows that will accentuate your music’s deep strengths.

The P1S4-12 features a responsive paper cone reinforced with Kevlar® fibers which is material used in bulletproof vests so you get the best of both worlds – performance and reliability. Its woofer cone is supported by high-density rubber surround for well-damped, tight sound quality and long-term reliability.

The Rockford Fosgate P1S4-12 uses a new technology called “VAST” which is a technique used to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases the available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

As for bass output and sound quality, the P1S4-12 does everything right. The sound it delivers has that great warm Punch, it has tight and fast response with definition. And on top of everything else it can sound quite loud.

The Rockford Fosgate P1S4-12 is rated for a sensitivity rating of 86 dB. It can handle up to 250 watts RMS. This sub is built to work equally well in a sealed or ported box, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

You aren’t going to win any car audio competition with this subwoofer, but dollar for dollar, it’s one of the best in this category. All things considered.

Rockford Fosgate P1-1X12 Review

If you are wanting to save yourself from the hassle of building an enclosure for your subwoofer, and you don’t mind shelling out a few extra dollars, then Rockford Fosgate P1-1X12 is for you.

The Rockford Fosgate P1-1X12 enclosure is very well-designed and well-built. It’s loaded with RF Punch P1S4-12 12 inch subwoofer (linked to above), which can handle up to 250 watts RMS.

This vented enclosure is made with rugged 5/8″ MDF (Medium-density fibreboard) which is a great, high quality material that’s very efficient at containing and withstanding the massive air pressure created by the sub. It’s covered with industrial-grade black carpet which provides a clean, finished look.

This ported hatchback-style enclosure uses an advanced port design that promotes generous air movement, while keeping port noise at a minimal, so you hear louder, distortion-free bass.

All in all, the P1-1X12 is a great budget-friendly loaded enclosure for anyone who wants to add a decent amount of bass to their car audio system without breaking that bank.

Rockford Fosgate P1-2X12 Review

So you’re a basshead, and one subwoofer isn’t enough for you? No problem. The Rockford Fosgate P1-2X12 might be a good option for you, as it combines two 12 inch Punch P1 subwoofers in one large ported enclosure so you can get that bass impact everyone around your vehicle can feel.

The P1-2X12 is the bigger brother of the P1-1X12 (linked to above). And since it houses in two 12 inch subwoofers, it can produce twice the amount of bass than the P1-1X12. However, it requires twice the amount of power than the P1-1X12.

The Rockford Fosgate P1-2X12 is loaded with two 12 inch subwoofers, each can handle 250 watts RMS, say 500 watts for the entire enclosure.
