Our Review

Orion is all about High Performance Car Audio and it certainly shows her in their Competition Subs. They real went all out in their Orion HCCA152 – 15” Competition Subwoofer. This sub is monstrous. If you are looking for some high performing subs that can get you some of that hard-hitting thump coming out of your sound system, look no further

This sub is enormous, weighing approximately 80 lbs. and is about 15 inches wide. This model is also offered in a 12” version. This thing is massive so if you don’t have a lot of room in your trunk, you might want to get a size smaller.

The Orion HCCA152 – 15” Competition Subwoofer features a rubber tri-radius symmetrical surround. This really helps to accommodate the high excursion that the sub produces – it can get up to about 4” of excursion (XMAX).

It has an enhanced voice coil cooling system with steel vent mesh to the sides of the subs. This really helps a ton as the subs do get hot!

Orion uses a Dual Flat Conex Spider that attaches right into the base of the cone, its super durable and can withstand those hard-hitting beats!

As these are competition grade subs, these are meant to be played real loud. These subs can peak up to about 5000Watts so it does use up a lot of power. And because it does require a ton of power, you will be needing an external high powered amplifier to get it to push to 2000-5000 Watts.

Due to its massive size, you might struggle trying to move them around, and you might also need a custom enclosure to accommodate these bad boys.

Overall the Orion HCCA152 – 15” Competition Subwoofer is a true testament to Orion’s handywork. It’s goclean cut look to it and produces that hard hitting beat you would want from a competition subwoofer!

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you are looking for a high performing, high quality competition grade subwoofer, you can’t go wrong with the Orion HCCA152 – 15” Competition Subwoofer. This thing is a beast! Orion is one of the leaders in the car audio industry when it comes to high performing audio equipment and it certainly shows in their HCCA subwoofer series.

PROS

  • Produces a nice, clear, and deep loud sound
  • Excellent flex capacity – can accommodate up to 4 inches of excursion!
  • Features an HCCA Voice Cooling System
  • Subwoofer Cone easily replaced with a kit

CONS

  • Extremely large and heavy – not the easiest to install on your own
  • Will need a custom enclosure to mount the subs
  • Will need a high powered amplifier to generate enough power to the subs

The great thing about these subwoofers is that it really gives you that clear deep sound you look for in a competition sub. Our favorite feature is the flex capacity of these things. The sub is about 7.5 inches deep so it can accommodate a lot of flex. Once these subs are broken in, you can get up to 4 inches of excursion.

Another great thing we like about it is that it does feature an HCCA Voice Cooling system which does help a ton in cooling the subs down. With all that power it produces, they do get pretty hot. But for the overzealous types who really bump these subs to the max, Orion does make it easy for you in case you damage the cones. Orion has a replacement kit that can easily replace them.

One of the only drawbacks is that these are massive in size, so it’s not the easiest to install. You will also need a custom enclosure to mount them. And because it produces so much power, you will be needing some extra juice. As with most competition grade subwoofers, you will be need a high-powered amp to generate enough power to these subs!

The verdict? The Orion HCCA152 – 15” Competition Subwoofer is a solid subwoofer design. If you are looking for a high performing sub to get you that thunderous thump as you roll down your neighborhood, this might be the one for you.
