Reviews of the 5 Best 6X8 Speakers

Still can’t decide which 6X8 Speakers to opt for? Then you should read the reviews below. The speakers we listed below are truly the best 6X8 speakers around.

1. Pioneer TS-A6885R Speakers Review

Pioneer TS-A6885R speakers reviewThe Pioneer A series speakers are some of the best car speakers on the market. Most forums agree. We personally think they are the best, all things considered. Most importantly, these speakers put out well-balanced sound and are very reasonably priced. That’s part of what makes them so appealing and popular (Pioneer A series speakers seem to be well-liked). We’ve come across a ton of you who have bought loved the way these speakers sound.

In terms of sound quality, these speakers sound excellent! have great highs, deep mids, punchy bass and clear vocals. And although the TS-A6885R are just 6X8 in size, their lows don’t sound muddy by any means. The bass sounds just like it should be. Not too much, but not too little either. Just in a perfect level.

The TS-A6885R speakers feature a wide frequency range – they have the widest frequency range among all the speakers we listed here. That’s due to the fact that they are 4-way speakers. 4-way speakers are equipped with an extra driver called “super-tweeter” which expands speakers frequency range of audio signals, resulting in more natural, clearer sounds. That said, You’ll be able to enjoy music details such as clear vocals, chunky guitar riffs, powerful drums, and distinct bass lines that have always been a part of your favorite tracks, but have remained hidden behind sub-par factory speakers.

Pioneer TS-A6885R Specifications
  • Size : 6X8 & 5X7

  • Sensitivity : 90 dB
  • Power Handling
    • RMS  :  60 watts

2. Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 Speakers Review

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 speakers reviewWe have reviewed various Rockford Fosgate car speakers on this site before, and the story has not changed. Rockford Fosgate produces a quality product for a great price.

Rockford Fosgate is one of the most authoritative brands in the loudspeaker industry. They have been in business for over four decades. And they have mastered the art of providing quality car speakers, amplifiers, and subwoofers. The price of Rockford Fosgate speakers are usually at a perfect balance. While some car speakers are priced at over $150 easily,  you can usually find a pair of Rockford Fosgate car speakers for around $60. This stood out to us as not being too cheap, but not expensive either.

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 speakers feature responsive polypropylene cones and butyl rubber surround which makes them a top-performer capable of standing up to countless hours of high-volume jams. They are rated for a sensitivity rating of 90 dB, and can handle a great amount of power on continuous basis (65 watts). Which is impressive. I mean combine that high sensitivity rating with that great power handling performance, and you get speakers that can put out clear sound that’ll stand out in a crowd.

The P1683 can deliver crisp, very clear sound (especially the highs). The downside, however, is the lack of bass. So, if you don’t listen to bass-heavy music, and you just want clear speakers that will play your music as clear as ever with little bass, then, these speakers are definitely for you.

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 Specifications
  • Size : 6X8
  • Design : 3-Way
  • Sensitivity : 90 dB
  • Power Handling
    • RMS  :  65 watts
    • Peak : 130 watts
  • Frequency response : 65 – 24,000 Hz
  • Top-mount depth : 2-5/16″

3. JBL GT7-86 Speakers Review

JBL GTO8628 6X8 car speakers reviewJBL is an American audio electronics company currently owned by Harman International. JBL is a pretty big name in the loudspeaker industry with more than seven decades of legacy and excellence. Their primary products are loudspeakers and associated electronics.  If you frequent any of the popular car audio forums, you’ll notice that the name JBL comes up quite a bit. JBL is trusted for its audio quality and their GTO series speakers just seem to hit the sweet spot for a lot of guys.

The GT7-86 are one of the best 6X8 speakers that JBL has to offer. These speakers are best suited for people who listen to relatively bass-heavy music. We do think you get a lot of bang for your buck with these speakers. They are truly the best 6X8 speakers for bass on the market especially considering the cost and the size of the speakers. The only downside I can reasonably think of is that these speakers will not sound that good right out of the box. They’ll take some time to break in. The Bass might sound muddy and muffled at first, but it will come around nicely over time.

The GT7-86 speakers will sound great running off of a factory headunit, but they’ll really shine when driven by a powerful aftermarket headunit or an outboard amplifier.

JBL GT7-86 Specifications
  • Size : 6X8 & 5X7
  • Design : 2-Way
  • Sensitivity : 93 dB
  • Power Handling
    • RMS  :  60 watts
    • Peak : 180 watts
  • Frequency response : 49-21,000 Hz
  • Top-mount depth : 2-3/16″

4. Infinity Kappa 682.9cf Speakers Review

Infinity Kappa 682 9CF speakers reviewWe have talked about Infinity several times before. Infinity brand is a major when it comes to loudspeakers, so naturally we wanted to include them in this article.

The Infinity Kappa 682.9cf is going to be the most expensive pick of the lot by far. These speakers sound fantastic and have an amazing range and response. They are built with high quality materials that allow for outstanding sound reproduction.

The Kappa 682.9cf speakers feature light, but stiff woven glass-fiber woofer cones that won’t flex or distort even at high volume levels. Infinity likes to brag about its patented “plus one” technology, which delivers a cone with more surface area than that in competing models of the same size. This translates to strong, punchy bass without any distortion to complement the sharp,ultrahigh-frequency response. I mean, think about it: a subwoofer produces bass by vibrating air, the more air it can vibrate, and the more bass you will get, and the larger the cone size, the stronger the bass. Same concept.

Infinity fitted the Kappa 682.9cf speakers the same metal matrix diaphragm tweeters found in many of their popular home speakers, so you’ll hear the music the way it was recorded with minimal coloration or distortion. You can pivot the dome tweeters and adjust their output level using the “tweeter-level control switch” for better stereo imaging.

Additionally, the pre-wired outboard crossovers will save you from the wiring hassle and they’ll stream sound frequencies to the suitable driver – lows to the woofers, and highs to the tweeters – for better stereo imaging and sound-stage.

The Infinity Kappa 682.9cf can handle a great deal of power on continuous basis. Thus, in order to bring out their full potential, it’s better to power them using a powerful external amplifier.

Infinity Kappa 682.9cf Specifications
  • Size : 6X8 & 5X7
  • Design : 2-Way
  • Sensitivity : 94 dB
  • Power Handling
    • RMS  : 100 watts
    • Peak : 300 watts
  • Frequency response : 40-25,000 Hz
  • Top-mount depth : 2-7/16″

5. Kenwood KFC-C6895PS Speakers Review

Kenwood KFC-C6895PS speakers reviewKenwood car speakers are mid-range speakers. They’re pretty popular on today’s market and represent one of the handful of major brands. They were established in 1946 and specialize in car audio selling car speakers, headunits, subwoofers and amps.

If you are looking for a good replacement for your factory installed speakers, and you are wanting to keep your pair of speakers under $50, we can’t think of a better option for 6×8 speakers than the KFC-C6895PS.

If I had to pick some criticisms for the Kenwood KFC-C6895PS, i’d have to say that they lack much bass. They deliver perfect highs and very good mids, but lows aren’t anything to write home about, which is due to the fact that these speakers’ frequency response is quite narrow compared to the other speakers we reviewed here.

Kenwood KFC-C6895PS Specifications

  • Size : 6X8
  • Design : 3-Way
  • Sensitivity : 93 dB
  • Power Handling
    • RMS  :  80 watts
    • Peak : 360 watts
  • Frequency response : 63-20,000 Hz
  • Top-mount depth : 2-3/8″
