Best 15 inch Subwoofers Reviews

No matter what kind of music you’re playing, how loudly or softly you like to listen, a quality subwoofer can enhance your overall listening experience and appreciation of your favorite music. Subwoofers are special speakers dedicated to reproduce only the lowest frequencies in your music; very low frequencies that most car speakers cannot reproduce.

Undeniably, car speakers — even high-end ones — aren’t anything to write home about compared to car subwoofers — no matter the size of the sub — when it comes to bass reproduction. Granted, these speakers aren’t designed for that. That’s the reason why they have a hard time reproducing enough bass to give your music realism and depth it needs.

So, if you’re wanting to feel that intense, spine-tingling impact of bass hitting your chest, then there’s no substitute for a subwoofer.

There are a lot of different ways to add a subwoofer to your vehicle. However, which one is right for you depends on a lot of different factors, including your musical tastes, budget, and how much space you have available in your vehicle.

Additionally, car subwoofers come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes (ranging from 8 to 18 inch). For the purpose of this post, we’ll be reviewing some of the best 15 inch subwoofers on the market.

Rockford Fosgate P3D4-15 Review

Rockford Fosgate P3D4-15 reviewWhen it comes to quality car subwoofers, Rockford Fosgate is probably one of the most legendary. Rockford Fosgate has been around for quite a long time. They’ve been in business for quite a long time and have mastered the art of making quality car subwoofers.

Rockford Fosgate offers a wide range of car subwoofes of different shapes and sizes. The subwoofer at hands – P3D4-15 – is one of the best 15 inch subwoofer that Rockford Fosgate has to offer. It’s a great value for the buck. It performs as good if not better than woofers 3 times its price.

With a powerful amplifier, this 15 inch subwoofer can get pretty darn loud and sound quite clean. So, if you’re looking for some low deep bass and don’t want to shell out several hundred dollars, this sub is a very good option to consider.

The Rockford Fosgate P3D4-15 has a sensitivity rating of 86 dB and can handle up to 600 watts on continuous basis (RMS). That’s quite a lot of power. So, consider a powerful amplifier.

This Punch P3 subwoofer features a rigid anodized aluminum cone supported by santoprene surround, which allows it to hold its shape at high output levels and heavy play. This 15 inch sub uses an advanced technique called VAST (Vertical Attach Surround Technique) to attach its over-sized rubber surround to the cone which increases the available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

Since this subwoofer can handle a ton of power, obviously it will generate a lot of heat. To dissipate that heat effectively, this subwooofer has some special venting that keeps the voice coils cool. Additionally, its aluminum cone acts as a giant heat sink dissipating heat away from the copper-clad aluminum voice coils, so you get incredibly consistent bass performance even after hours of extensive play.

Power Acoustik MOFO152X Review

Power Acoustik MOFO152X reviewThe Power Acoustik MOFO152X is another great, reasonably priced 15 inch subwoofer. However, being budget-friendly doesn’t make it less powerful. Quite honestly, this badass beast can handle up to 1500 watts of power on continuous basis (RMS). That’s just insane.

Power Acoustik Mofo series subs are quite popular in SPL competitions. These subs are designed to play ridiculously loud. That said, if you’re on a tight-budget and you are looking for a competition 15 inch sub that can be heard from a mile away, shakes mirrors and license plates, then the Power Acoustik MOFO152X is for you.

The downside, however, is that the MOFO-152X is more about loudness than sound quality. This can be a major drawback for those seeking a good balance of both.

Please note that if you dont break the sub in over a few days period, you risk blowing it. That said, don’t pound the hell out of it since day one.

What you want to do to steadily break in your subwoofer is to play your music that has a heavy, continuous bass at medium or low volume for a couple days. After a short period of time, there won’t be any improvements with the sound quality. That’s when it’s the right time to get crankin but don’t exceed your limits.

Power Acoustik MOFO152X Specifications :
  • Size : 15″
  • Sensitivity    : NA
  • Power-handling
    • Peak    : 3000 watts
    • RMS    : 1700 watts
  • Frequency response :  22 – 250 Hz
  • Voice Coil(s)   :  Dual
  • Impedance (Per Voice Coil) : 2 ohms
  • Top-mount depth : 7-5/8″

Its square design makes this subwoofer 20 percent larger than regular 15″ round subs — larger cone moves more air for more bass. The Solo-Baric L7 15-Inch subwoofer features a distinctive non-resonant cast-aluminum basket which provide a strong foundation. Additionally, its Santoprene rubber surround exerts tight control over woofer excursion, while its perimeter venting allow for heat dissipation and keep voice coils cool when the sub’s under heavy load. Bass accuracy and performance is maintained, even at the highest sound pressure levels.

The Kicker S15L72 features a sensitivity rating of 89 dB and can handle up to 1000 watts RMS. It can be mounted in either a sealed or ported box, depending on your needs and musical taste.
